Next year, there is a 50% chance that Atlantic City will have 17 days of high tide flooding, according to a new report released by Rutgers University.
The study compares data to 2010, when there was a 50% chance of seven days of high tide flooding, to 2030, when there is a 50% chance of Atlantic City experiencing 35 days of high tide flooding.
The report also notes: “From 1911 (the start of the Atlantic City tide-gauge record) to 2019, sea-level rose 17.6 inches (1.5 feet) along the New Jersey coast, compared to a 7.6-inch (0.6 feet) total change in the global mean sea-level.”
In addition, the report states: “Over the last forty years, from 1979-2019, sea-level rose 8.2 inches (0.7 feet) along the New Jersey coast, compared to a 4.3-inch (0.4 feet) change in global mean sea-level. “
