How to mark Earth Day 2024 in South Jersey

April 22, 2024 is Earth Day, a global event that unites an estimated 1 billion people around the common goal of protecting the environment. Its significance resonates more profoundly than ever, serving as both a celebration and a call to action and advocacy.

The South Jersey region will mark the day with a range of events and initiatives throughout the week, including festivals, beach clean-up efforts, educational workshops and performances.

Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) 32nd Annual Earth Day Festival

ACUA Environment Park (6700 Delilah Road), Egg Harbor Township

The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) is a public utility responsible for providing services like wastewater management, solid waste disposal, and recycling to residents and businesses in Atlantic County, New Jersey. Additionally, they put an annual Earth Day festival with music, hayrides, recycling center tours, interactive exhibits showcasing renewable energy solutions, composting demonstrations and a showcase of electric vehicles.

“The type of facilities and organizations that are a part of this celebration make people think of trash and the things that people take for granted,” said Sarah Verillo, chief customer relationship manager.

Cape May County Earth Day Celebration 2024

Saturday, April 20th 10am-3pm

Cape May County Park, 707 Rte 9 North, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210

Cape May Zoo invites residents and visitors to their annual Earth Day festival, with the theme “Planet vs. Plastic!” There will be activities and attractions, including eco-friendly workshops, live entertainment, and engaging exhibits that connect the importance of environmental and wildlife conservation. 

Rowan University Bio Blitz

Wednesday, April 24th 9am-9pm

Rowan University, Glassboro Campus

Check in- Discovery Hall, 201 Mullica Hill Rd, Glassboro, NJ

Rowan University School of Earth & Environment is hosting BioBlitz, an exciting event that challenges participants to document as much flora and fauna as they can in just 12 hours! Using the iNaturalist app, participants contribute valuable and accurate data on the biodiversity of the campus. In addition, organized activities such as a walking tour of historic centennial trees and native plants around Discovery Hall help everyone explore the area. So join Rowan in improving identifying species and serving students, as well as researchers who study the campus habitat.

  • With giveaways, free plants, and crafts, Pitman doesn’t disappoint when it comes to its nature party to celebrate the annual Earth Day celebration!

  • The Division of Parks and Recreation’s 20th Earth Day event includes a live animal show with Rizzo’s Wildlife World and a campfire where you can bring your favorite snacks.

Earth Day Green Fair

  • Discover unique eco-friendly activities like recycling bikes and sustainable practices that will make a positive impact on your planet at the Earth Day Green Fair.

  • Gloucester County Certified Gardeners are hosting a family and friends Earth Day event that includes such as live music, free tree seedlings, and a magic show.

  • New Jersey State Park Service hosts hundreds of events, including a sunset kayak tour, a woodland wildflower walk, and birding at Belleplain State Forest.

Cape May Beach Clean Up 

  • April 22, 2024, 10am-2pm
  • Cape May beach was shut down during last summer to protect  the nesting shorebirds. Join them to clean up the debris for the grand re- opening to kick off Earth Day 2024.
