Alex Pozza, President of the Wenonah Lake Association, has been elected to Wenonah Borough Council and is hoping to enact pro-environmental change within the town.
“On council, I aim to further the initiatives I sought as Lake Association president, namely to guarantee affordable access to our swim program for all,” he said. “I also aim to encourage eco-friendly actions elsewhere. There are ways to limit automotive congestion by the school by developing initiatives to incentivize students to bike and walk more. We can further promote awareness of the ecological value of letting fallen leaves remain on your lawn.”
Naturally, as President of the Wenonah Lake Association, Pozza has a passion for nature conservation that comes through when discussing the subject.
“Wenonah Lake, an extension of our conservation area, is a beautiful natural oasis set in a scenic treescape,” he said. “Its grounds are open to the public year-round, and in the summer, it serves as one of the few designated swimming lakes in South Jersey. It provides our community, especially the youth, with distinct opportunities to connect with the natural world.”
The ability to maintain and operate the Wenonah Lake as a swimming lake is quite an accomplishment, as its numbers have been dwindling in the state. The Wenonah Lake hosts numerous events for its members year-round, from an annual haunted trail, live music, yoga classes, and art classes for kids.
The question for Pozza now is: “What’s next?” He now has a larger influence on the environmental practices of Wenonah and its townspeople since being elected to council.
“There are opportunities to develop a communal garden, opportunities to take more eco-friendly approaches to infrastructural developments, and more,” he said. “I believe these initiatives would not only benefit our local ecosystem, but have beneficial long-term fiscal perks as well.”
