New Jersey Transit has debuted its first-ever electric bus service in Camden County — and will soon expand to other locations.
The public got a preview of the new buses at an electric vehicle event in Marlton, sponsored by Tri-County Sustainability and the South Jersey Electric Vehicle Club.
In 2020, Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation that establishes a goal that least 10% of new bus purchases will be zero-emission by 2024 and at least 50% by 2026. By 2032, the authority plans to only purchase electric buses.
New Jersey Transit is the nation’s largest statewide public transportation system and operates 253 bus routes to 19,000 bus stops in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.
